Hybrid Training
At the beginning of this year, I could only run two blocks.
I thought I wasn't improving as much as I should.
I was.
Now (April 2025) I run two miles without stopping.
Maybe your body is quietly doing the work.
Give it time.
I spent most of my life opting out of sport. No particular reason — it just wasn't part of my identity. Then last year I decided that was a choice I was making, not a fact about me. So I changed it.
I built a training split. I learned how to eat. I showed up consistently enough that hard things stopped feeling hard. They just became Tuesday.
Somewhere in that process I also let go of the gym culture idea that running is the enemy of muscle. It isn't. I'm doing both now. My body is fine. Better than fine, actually.
This year I ran the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge — 3.5 miles, target 35 minutes. I finished in 40:15.
The longer goal isn't a race time. It's strength and endurance. It's longevity.

MS/USAP 5K for 5K
Same event I've helped organize since 2023. Most of the colleagues who show up have never been to Zimbabwe, never met a USAP student — they know the school through us. They run anyway. It adds up to real money for kids who need it.
